Smylies Staff celebrating raising £2,500 for charity.

Despite a challenging year, Smylies are incredibly proud to have raised £2,500 in the last 12 months for Dementia Together Wirral – a local charity that focuses on supporting those with Dementia as well as their carer’s.

How Smylies Raised £2,500

The Smylies team have succeeded at raising such a generous sum by committing to a variety of exciting fundraising activities during 2020, including a ‘Virtual Duathlon’, local sponsored runs, bike rides and an impressive cycle/run event to a Virtual Land’s End at JohnO’Groats.

Our Managing Director, Chris Smylie commented “Smylies have been pleased to support Dementia Together for the past year especially during such difficult times for everyone. All the team at Dementia Together Wirral do such a wonderful job and we are so lucky to have this brilliant charity operating locally”.

Helping the Community

The money raised by Smylies will contribute to DTW’s principal operating costs in order to support the services they provide for people living with Dementia in the local area. Smylies initially chose Dementia Together Wirral as their nominated charity back in 2019 with an initial donation of £3,500.

Allan Grogan DTW Chair of Trustees commented – “We are absolutely delighted that Smylies has chosen to support us again this year. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of this local family business. Once we are able to get back to offering our usual activities, this donation will help to cover the cost of providing monthly musical groups, day coach trips and craft sessions”.

Dementia Together Wirral

Dementia Together Wirral is almost completely operated by volunteers and prior to the pandemic, they were providing regular activities for people to attend in the local community such as craft and game workshops as well as a monthly ‘Musical Minds’ group in New Ferry.

In December 2020, DTW launched the Activity Box Project – an initiative which is proving to be popular among its users. The boxes are distributed on a loan basis and are completely free of charge, as are all the services and activities offered by Dementia Together Wirral.
